Most regions near Kamloops at below normal snowpack after cool and dry March

VICTORIA — A cool and dry March decreased the provincial snowpack in B.C.

In its latest Snow Survey and Water Supply Bulletin, using numbers from April 1, the B.C. River Forecast Centre (BCRFC) says the average snowpack across the province is 88 per cent of normal, down from 94 per cent on March 1.

Most areas in the alpine around Kamloops are also low, with the Middle Fraser at 89 per cent of normal, Lower Fraser at 83 per cent and the North Thompson at 82 per cent. The South Thompson is close to normal at 97 per cent.

However, the Lower Thompson is at 115 per cent of normal. The Chilcotin basin has the greatest snowpack percentage at 241.
