January 11, 1976 – February 23, 2023
Born January 11, 1976 God gently & lovingly placed Scott into our arms & home and, just as lovingly and gently, took him back on Feb 23, 2023.
Scott grew into a wonderful young man. He excelled in everything – education, sports, fast ball, social and community life. Discussions with him on the drive to piano lessons showed him to be an ’old soul’, full of “wisdom “, willing to ‘take on’ any challenge.
That all changed in 1993 after a devastating MVA resulting in multiple injuries, including a TBI. His life then became a challenge to rebuild his identity, heal his physical body and face his future. After several lost years he and Dr Paul Yanko developed a plan to cope. This enabled him to work in construction in BC & Alberta, mainly driving large equipment, he purchased a home in Morinville, where he welcomed his friends.
In 2008 he sold his home and Kamloops became his base. Through these years he was employed as a security guard for awhile. He went back to Edmonton to work on his seasonal job driving track hoe but when he returned the next year, physical difficulties brought him home and disabled him. After 8 years he was determined to ’get his life back’ but he found little support from the medical community. Recently, though a Mental Health program, a wonderful nurse, Stephanie, became his advocate and finally gave him some hope.
He loved the forest. He loved fishing and hunting – shooting his first deer at 12 years old and his last, this year…. proudly “filling the family freezer”. He loved wildlife. He seemed to communicate with any animal he was with ….the big black bear that sauntered by his door, the deer that visited him outside his door, or the tiny mouse that lived in the bushes. The family cat insisted on his cuddles over others. He even protected a mama black widow spider as she watched over her eggs. His 2 biggest losses in his life were his best friend Neal Colville and his wolf-cross dog Kimo – losses that were never resolved.
We are so grateful to all the people who impacted his life. Dr.Paul Yanko for many years and Dr F Kruger in the last years. Friends who ‘were there’ until the end when he needed them the most.
He is survived by his parents, Harold & Grace Neufeld, his sister Raena Sutherland and her husband Matt (a true friend to Scott), and sons Taeven (who made him a proud Uncle Scott first) and Bekkett (aka “Short Round” to uncle Scott). He was predeceased in 2010 by his very special brother Roger Lulua. He also leaves his large extended family.
*Scotty, we will always remember your courage in pursuing a ‘normal life’ and your deep love and gratefulness to us as we accompanied you on that journey. And your big kind heart to those around you. Rest in the peace that you so deserve! We know we will see you again!
Love,
Mom & Dad
