KAMLOOPS — Saturday (Mar. 11) is Kamloops Seedy Saturday 2023 and this year, the Kamloops’ Regional Farmers Market and the Mount Paul Community Food Centre have joined forces to co-host. Seedy Saturday 2023 aims to be a fun and enjoyable event about local food, seeds and food security and sovereignty.

Throughout the day there will be seeds of diversity video presentations on topics such as organic seeds, pollinators or regenerative agriculture.

“The focus is seeds, so there is going to be a number of vendors selling seeds that they have grown. There is also going to be the Kamloops Food Policy Council with their seed library, so people can bring seeds they have saved and exchange them or borrow seeds and promise to save some for later,” said Farmers Market Manager Greg Unger. “There is going to be some workshops around organic growing and seed starting and a few other things.”

Several community groups will be attending who have a focus on food access, food production and gardening, along with some Kamloops farmers market vendors.

“The Seedy Saturday event is to raise awareness around food security and food sovereignty. The importance of plants don’t come from nowhere, they come from a seed, and in the age of declining biodiversity on the planet, climate change, it’s really important to think about saving our seeds from one generations to another,” said Unger.

The event runs from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Mount Paul Community Food Centre (140 Laburnum Street).
