KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers scored early and often in their 7-1 win over the Everett Silvertips Wednesday (March 8).

Former Silvertip Olen Zellweger wristed the puck in from the top of the right circle just 21 seconds in to give Kamloops the early 1-0. Then 16 minutes later, Fraser Minten skated through the neutral zone and wristed the puck in from the slot to make it 2-0 after the first period.

The Blazers expanded their lead in the second period: Jakub Demek pounced on a rebound on the power play early and Emmitt Finnie skated around a defender and set up Connor Levis for a wide open tap-in.

The Silvertips would respond 20 seconds later to make it 4-1 although it wouldn’t be enough to catch up as the Blazers added three extra insurance goals in the third period en route to the 7-1 win.

The Blazers have won four games in a row and improve their record on the 2022-23 Western Hockey League season to 42-11-4-2, good for 90 points in 50 games. They clinched the B.C. Division and trail the Seattle Thunderbirds for first in the Western Conference by nine points. The Blazers have nine games remaining while the Thunderbirds have eight.

Next up, the Blazers return home to Sandman Centre Friday (March 10) when they welcome the Silvertips in a rematch. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
