Merritt flooding victim planning to replace lost items and book a vacation after $125,000 win
MERRITT, B.C. — A victim of the 2021 flooding in Merritt received a lucky boost to their recovery effort.
In a news release issued Friday (Jan. 27), British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) says Cindy Petroczi won $125,000 off a Scratch & Win ticket. She had purchased and checked the winning ticket at Walmart on Crawford Avenue in Merritt.
“I decided to treat myself to a ticket and was at the store and thought, ‘Holy crap is this real?’” Petroczi said. “I was in tears when I called [my husband]. I couldn’t believe it. Then he asked if I needed an escort home.”
Petroczi was one of the Merritt residents impacted by the 2021 flooding and said some of her winnings will go towards replacing items that were lost and helping her family. She also looks forward to taking a vacation.
