WolfPack men’s volleyball beats UFV; basketball teams drop pair to Cascades

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s volleyball team returned to the Tournament Capital Centre with a thrilling five-set victory over the University of the Fraser Valley Friday (Jan. 20).

The WolfPack outlasted the Cascades 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 31-33, 15-10.

Sam Flowerday had a game-high 25 kills for TRU, who improve to 7-and-8 on the season. UFV drops to 4-and-13.

The two teams will battle it out again at the TCC Saturday (Jan. 21) with a 3:00 p.m. start time.

On the basketball court in Abbotsford, it was all UFV in the women’s match, as the Cascades thumped the WolfPack 103-28.

Makeba Taylor led the WolfPack with eight points. For UFV, Julia Techscherer accumulated the first triple-double in program history with exactly 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

TRU falls to 1-and-12 on the season. UFV is up to 10-and-3.

It was a much closer affair on the men’s side, with the Cascades pulling away 92-88.

Asher Mayan poured in 34 points for the WolfPack, while Chris Jackson and Dario Lopez both had 22 for the Cascades.

TRU drops to 5-and-8 on the season, while UFV improves to 6-and-7.

The teams will renew acquaintances in Abbotsford Saturday.
