TRU cheer team off to world championships this month
KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack cheer team is ready to take on the world.
After first- and second-place finishes at the 2022 BC Sport Cheer Provincial Championships last March, the team is heading to the University World Cup Cheerleading Championships later this month.
The team, consisting of 28 members, will compete in the Game Day division, while a 20-member team will also compete in the more modern University Premier division, which is considered the highest level of difficulty in the pursuit.
“We are still a very young program, going up against teams who have competed at this level for years,” said Coach Meaghan Blakely in a release. “Regardless of our placement, we want to be proud of what we put out on the floor and prove that we are a contender to watch out for. We are the underdogs and are looking to do our province and university proud.”
