Extra holiday waste puts additional pressure on City of Kamloops collection
KAMLOOPS — With all those wonderful gifts we give and receive around Christmas time, comes an increase in the waste we generate. The City is asking residents to pay close attention to the residential garbage schedule.
Multiple statutory holidays during the stretch between Christmas and New Year’s Day means waste collection schedules can often get shifted around. That can leave residents wondering about when city crews will come along to pick up waste bins.
“It is a bit confusing this time of year when your collection day was a Monday and all of a sudden now it’s a Thursday,” Glen Farrow, Streets and Environmental Services Manager with the City explains. “There are extra days in there, extra accumulation being developed, so with that, we do encourage residents to hold extra material at their home as long as they can, knowing that tonnages are really high right now.”
