Santa is watching you, Kamloops

KAMLOOPS– Photos with Santa are back in full force and the man in red couldn’t be happier.

“There’s no plexiglass, the kids are free to come and sit on my knee. The most exhilarating thing Santa can have is holding a baby, ” Santa told CFJC.

“It’s just magic when you can have that.”

But after a few years without climbing up on Santa’s lap, he says many kids aren’t sure how to interact with him.

“There’s covid babies, which is really something, they are two years old, never sat on Santa’s knee and they are a little shy,” Santa explained.

“Most kids are sitting beside me this year, instead of on my knee, but the ones that do sit on my knee are kinda like throwback kids, like ‘we’ve done this for years.’ But the covid babies, they sit because they don’t know me.”

According to Santa’s village, this year they have seen record turnouts for families coming to get their photos taken.

Santa says he was a little surprised by what the most wished-for toys were. He said the hottest items were easy-bake ovens and pogo sticks.

“Both of those are retro as far as I’m concerned,” he said.

“But that’s what they’re asking for.”

“I just want everyone to be happy, I want everybody to enjoy their family, and I want the kids to know that Santa’s watching,” Santa said.
