BC SPCA offers cold weather tips for pets as temperatures drop

KAMLOOPS — The BC SPCA is putting out a reminder to all pet owners about the effects the cold weather has on our four-legged friends.

As the freezing cold weather rears its ugly head pet owners are putting out a call to people hoping to ensure their pets are safe during this cold stretch.

Some of the dangers that pose for dogs specifically is the risk that is posed to their paws when out for walks.

“They could ingest salt, they could get frostbite and that’s why we say to get them used to [dog boots] or alternatively don’t have them out there for very long,” says Eileen Drever with the BC SPCA.

The SPCA also reminds people there are animals trying to stay warm in the winter near vehicles and homes.

They also add that animals left out in the cold face the harshest of elements which can have terrible consequences.

“My heart breaks for animals who are left out there and are seeking warmth and by doing so, they could end up dying,” Drever adds.
