City of Kamloops issues statement on closed council meetings, hints of lawsuit
KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops has issued a lengthy statement stemming from consecutive closed council meetings this week.
The statement does not go into details, but offers hints that the city may be facing a lawsuit that puts its interest at odds with those of Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson.
Council went into a closed meeting Tuesday (Dec. 6), in part to consider legal advice from its solicitor. Because the city’s legal interests “are or may be” adverse to Hamer-Jackson’s, the mayor was asked not to attend.
The statement goes on to say, “Council will not be discussing the potential lawsuits or legal issues, nor the conduct that led to them.”
