SAFE RIDES HOME

Operation Red Nose Kamloops off to a flying start in 2022

KAMLOOPS — Thursday night (Dec. 1st) is the start of the second weekend of providing safe rides home for Operation Red Nose in Kamloops.

The service is in its 26th year of helping revellers get themselves and their vehicles home after a few drams of holiday cheer.

The service kicked off last weekend, and according to Elsa Poppleton, Operation Red Nose Coordinator in Kamloops, plenty of citizens took advantage.

“The first weekend was super busy. We had Christmas parties, and Christmas vouchers under our belts,” Poppleton tells CFJC Today. “We had a number of rides and a number of teams providing safe rides home, so we were thrilled with the results of the first weekend. We’re kicking off our second weekend tonight. We’ll be on the road tonight, tomorrow and Saturday. Really pleased with the numbers this year.”

Operation Red Nose runs every weekend from now until New Year’s Eve — excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas, of course. As always, the service is looking for folks to volunteer to help folks get home from holiday celebrations.

“The more volunteers we have, the more rides we can give and the more money we raise. In return, we get people home safely during the holiday season, so we never say no to volunteers. More is better. We certainly have a solid crew this year, but of course, we’re welcoming anyone to help support the campaign.”
