Blazers blow out Bedard and Pats 9-3

Dec 1, 2022 | 8:01 AM

KAMLOOPS — The Connor Bedard bump did not disappoint in Kamloops Wednesday (Nov. 30) night, as the Kamloops Blazers won a 9-3 blowout over the Regina Pats.

In front of a standing room only crowd of 5,544 – the largest announced attendance at Sandman Centre since the Blazers’ 2019-20 home opener – Bedard scored two goals and an assist. He scored into a wide-open net after previously being stopped on a breakaway, then glided down the right wing and sniped the puck in the top left corner.

But in the end, it was the hometown Blazers who put on the show. The game was only 2-1 for the Blazers after the first period, thanks to a tap-in in front of the net by Matthew Seminoff and Logan Stankoven picking a corner and scoring from the right wing.

However, the Blazers erupted in the second period, scoring seven goals in the middle frame that was topped off with three goals in just 29 seconds halfway through. Fraser Minten and Caedan Bankier each scored twice in the second period.

The Kamloops faithful was buzzing, directing a message to Bedard about how much they value his friend, and their local Blazers’ captain Stankoven.

The Blazers improved to 12-5-3-1 on the 2022-23 Western Hockey League season, good for 28 points in 21 games. The Blazers jumped from second in the B.C. Division to first and from fifth in the Western Conference to third.

Next up for the Blazers is a Friday (Dec. 2) night home game against the Vancouver Giants. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. from Sandman Centre.
