Giving Tuesday an opportunity for community generosity

Nov 29, 2022 | 5:09 PM

KAMLOOPS — Today is Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to doing good for the community. The project started in 2012 following the idea of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. One day a year, that encourages individuals to do what they can to support non-profits and charities in their communities.

“It’s about a concept that really should exist year-round, not just on a certain day,” Bernadette Siracky, executive director of the Kamloops Food Bank told CFJC News.

Siracky says giving can come in many different forms including donations and volunteering.

She said it’s important to remind residents to give back, especially with more people needing community support in recent years.

“In the last couple of years at the food bank, we’ve noted many people have come to see us for the first time in their lives,” Siracky said.

“We never know what’s around the corner for us and if you’re in a position where you have to use a service in the community or a nonprofit organization, consider giving to support their efforts that’s really all this is about.”

There are 14 local organizations listed as partners participating in Giving Tuesday, for more information on local partners and how to get involved, click here.
