WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — RCMP in Williams Lake have confirmed a social media message warning of a school shooting in the community was a prank.

In a news release, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says police were alerted when students at a Williams Lake school received messages on Snapchat speaking of an impending school shooting.

Investigators determined two boys made up a Snapchat account in a third boy’s name before sending a photo with a gun and a threatening caption.

While the boys meant the message as a prank, RCMP say they take any threat of this nature seriously.
