RCMP expected to provide larger update into Coquihalla closure
MERRITT, B.C. — The Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt reopened early Wednesday (Nov. 23) evening after a closure due to a police incident earlier in the day.
In a news release, RCMP say they’re committed to releasing a more “fulsome” update Thursday (Nov. 24).
“The investigation into the need for the closure remains active and ongoing, and the public can anticipate seeing a marked increase in police vehicles in the area,” Sgt. Chris Manseau, B.C. RCMP spokesman says.
Previously, the stretch of Highway 5 near the area of Juliet Bridge was not open for public or commercial vehicles. Manseau said a “large number of policing resources from surrounding areas” were responding to the incident.
