KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: Trans Mountain has issued this statement to CFJC Today:

Trans Mountain confirms receipt of a charge issued by the BC Heritage Conservation Act in relation to an alleged archaeological incursion which occurred on private agricultural land. We have engaged with the relevant stakeholders and will respond to the summons as required.

EARLIER: The Crown corporation behind the Trans Mountain Pipeline was in Kamloops provincial court Monday (Nov. 21) to answer to a charge of disturbing a heritage site.

The company is charged under the Heritage Conservation Act.

Crown spokesman Dan McLaughlin says it’s alleged the company “did damage, excavate, dig in or alter a site that contains artifacts, features, materials or other physical evidence of human habitation or use before 1846, contrary to section 12.1(2)(d) of the HCA.”

McLaughlin says the offence in question is alleged to have occurred between July 7 and August 25, 2021, near Kamloops.

The company’s next appearance is set for January 23, 2023.
