Health Canada recalls multiple bassinets due to ‘suffocation and entrapment hazards’

TORONTO — Various bassinets and change tables made by Harmony Play & Go Playards have been recalled due to the risks they pose.

In a news release, Health Canada announced the recall of these products as there are “suffocation and entrapment hazards.”

The Health Canada website states issues surrounding the products include:

  • If the bassinet structural support bars are not in place and fully assembled in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, and if an unattended infant is placed cross-wise on the bassinet without the bassinet structural support bars in place, an uneven sleeping surface may be created posing a potential risk of injury or death due to suffocation.
  • If a child is left unattended in the bassinet or playard portion of the playard while the change table accessory is installed, contrary to the manufacturer’s instructions, a child could attempt to lift the change table accessory posing a potential risk of injury or death due to entrapment.

Customers who purchased these products are told to immediately detach and discard the change table straps and stop using the instructions for the change table.

Then they should contact Harmony Play & Go Playards for an updated version of the instructions or product.

“The affected products were manufactured from January 10, 2020, to November 20, 2021,” the release reads.

If someone has concerns over the safety of the product, they are instructed to contact Harmony Play & Go Playards or Health Canada.
