Chamber petitioning Ottawa for change to affordable housing in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — As the living wage in Kamloops went up 14 per cent this year, the Kamloops and District Chamber of Commerce is petitioning the federal government for change to make affordable housing more sustainable in the city.
In his day job as a consultant, Chamber Director Colin O’Leary created the Community Land Trust tax policy which looks to address affordable housing head-on in Kamloops and Canada.
The policy is intended to create an incentive for private landowners as well as corporations to donate land to “Land Trusts” to enable them to develop affordable housing in that area.
