Body found following Saturday morning structure fire

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) crews attended a structure fire on the city’s North Shore Saturday (October 29) morning.

Crews were called to 227 Palm St. to the scene of an attached building on fire.

An “unidentified” body was found at the scene of the fire according to the BC Coroners Service.

S/Sgt. Shoihet of the Kamloops RCMP states, “we are working with the BC Coroners Service to identify the individual and the Kamloops RCMP Fire Investigator will be working with the RCMP Forensic Identification Service in an effort to establish the source and cause of the fire, which has yet to be determined.”

The RCMP release says police officers will remain in the area throughout Saturday and Sunday to conduct video and witness canvassing.

Kamloops RCMP is asking anyone who was in the area between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. or may have video surveillance that faces the rear or front of businesses in the 100-block of Palm Street is asked to contact the RCMP at 250-828-3000.

KFR says the fire stayed in the back of the unit.

Clean-up crews have left the area as the fire has been put out.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire, no further information has been provided.
