Six new faces around TNRD Board of Directors; three incumbents defeated

KAMLOOPS — The TNRD Board of Directors will have a whole new look after Saturday’s (Oct. 15) election.

Six of the ten rural areas had elections, with Lee Onslow (Area ‘B’ — Thompson Headwaters), David Laird (Area ‘M’ — Beautiful Nicola Valley-North), Herb Graham (Area ‘N’ — Beautiful Nicola Valley-South) and Jill Hayward (Area ‘O’ — Lower North Thompson) all acclaimed.

Three incumbents were upset by challengers.

Usoff Tsao (50.3 per cent) defeated incumbent Carol Schaffer (49.7 per cent) by just two votes in Area ‘A’ (Wells Gray Country).

In Area ‘I’ (Blue Sky Country), Tricia Thorpe (65 per cent) defeated incumbent Steven Rice (35 per cent).

And in Area ‘E’ (Bonaparte Plateau), incumbent Sally Watson (36.1 per cent) was bested by challenger Jim Smith (63.9 per cent).

Lee Morris (78.9 per cent) is the new director for Area ‘P’ (Rivers and the Peaks), defeating Carla Barrett (21.1 per cent).

Doug Haughton (78 per cent) will represent Area ‘L’ (Grasslands) after his victory over John Taylor (22 per cent).

And in Area ‘J’ (Copper Desert Country), Michael Grenier (57 per cent) defeated Michael McKelvey (38 per cent) and Corine LeBourdais (5 per cent).
