KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP were out and about last long weekend, responding to about 494 calls for service between midnight Friday (Oct. 7) to 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 11). Here are some of the more notable incidents they responded to:

——

Officers surrounded an address on Fortune Drive Friday evening at about 8:50 p.m. after the report of a vehicle stolen from under the driver’s nose.

The driver reported leaving their vehicle running while going inside a restaurant, returning a short time later to find someone else driving off.

Vehicle description:

  • Blue
  • BC license SC6 99X
  • License plate clipped to windshield

Suspect clothing description:

  • Jeans
  • Black t-shirt
  • Backpack
  • Large duffle bag

——

Mounties swarmed the 100-block of Tranquille Road Sunday at about 5:30 p.m. after witnesses reported a man running toward the beach with an apparent long gun.

Officers quickly found a blue truck associated to the report. Two suspects were seen returning to the truck before fleeing into the bushes when officers confronted them. One suspect was located and arrested under the Overlanders Bridge a short time later.

A canine search of the area did not turn up any guns.

The blue truck was later determined to have been stolen from the 1300-block of Kootenay Way.

——

An Elm Avenue resident experienced their own nightmare Monday morning.

Returning home at about 10:50 a.m., the resident found two strangers asleep in their bed.

Officers arrived and, with the help of the Police Dog Service Unit, arrested a man and a woman for offences related to break-and-enter.

The suspects have been released with conditions, a court date and pending charges.
