Woman suffers minor injuries after black bear encounter near 100 Mile House
100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — A woman walking her dogs suffered minor injuries after she encountered a bear in a rural area near 100 Mile House over the weekend.
In a social media post, the Conservation Officer Service (COS) says the woman was walking her two off-leash dogs in a recently logged area near her home in Forest Grove Friday (Oct. 4) afternoon. The dogs ran ahead into the bush, and a black bear was in pursuit when they came back out running towards her.
According to the COS, the bear swatted and bit the woman before stopping its attack. She was able to leave the area and received treatment in hospital for bruising, scratches, and minor puncture wounds.
The COS says there will be no efforts to capture or kill the bear, as their investigation determines it was a defensive attack involving a sow with its cub. Warning signs have been posted in the area and nearby residents have been informed of the attack.
