KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Women’s Soccer is well on its way to having one of the best years in program history.

After a pair of losses to start the season, the ‘Pack are unbeaten in six straight games, with four wins and a pair of draws in those contests. That stretch represents the longest unbeaten streak since the TRU soccer programs joined Canada West in 2014.

This weekend, the WolfPack took four of the six available points. They earned a 0-0 draw against the U Sports No. 2-ranked Trinity Western University Spartans on Friday while defeating the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades 2-1 on Saturday.

UFV opened the scoring on Saturday night, but the WolfPack rode a strong second half to victory.

Anika Black, a first-year midfielder from Kamloops, scored her first Canada West goal to equalize the game for TRU in the 57th minute.

With time winding down, Emily Clark barged into the crease and smashed home the eventual winner with less than seven minutes remaining in the game. TRU Goalkeeper Marissa Young made five saves in the win.

Heading into the weekend, TRU hadn’t earned a single point against either team. After Saturday’s win over UFV, Head Coach Mark Pennington was thrilled with his squad’s effort.

“All the girls that came into the game were great. We are really happy with a four-point weekend, that was our goal coming into it and it was probably a bit lofty,” said Pennington. “We’ll celebrate the points tonight and then get ready for another set of tough games.”

The team has six games left to match the program record of five wins in a single campaign, set back in 2015. They’re on the road next weekend, taking on the University of Victoria on Friday, before returning to the mainland to play UBC Saturday.

On Friday, the University of Calgary Dinos’ Gianmarco Plenzik scored the game’s lone goal in the 61st minute. The Dinos held on to defeat TRU 1-0.

On Saturday, the WolfPack looked much more energetic as they handed the University of Alberta Golden Bears their first loss of the 2022 campaign.

Mikkel Rosenlund and Dylan Hooper both scored their first goals of the season in the victory, with Patrick Izett picking up a pair of assists.

The WolfPack Men are at home for a pair of games this weekend, as they wrap up their regular season home schedule with contests against the Trinity Western Spartans and Fraser Valley Cascades.
