Merritt to pilot four-day work week to recruit and retain staff
MERRITT B.C. — The City of Merritt is thinking outside the box in an attempt to retain and recruit municipal staff. The City will be launching a four-day work week pilot program.
The one-year pilot will see municipal staff work four ten-hour shifts, Tuesday to Friday. The change will allow City Hall to be open earlier and later each day, and hopefully prevent burnout of city staff.
Merritt’s Chief Administrative Officer Sean Smith outlined how the program will not cost the taxpayers any additional funds and how they hope it will make Merritt more appealing to future applicants.
