KAMLOOPS — Riverside Park was kept busy on Saturday (Sept. 17) as locals enjoyed the Children’s Arts Festival.

The festival looks to grow the arts community and show children their creative side.

“To us especially as the arts council, we strive to get the arts out there, get kids into galleries, get them to experience new things and watch new performances. They can get their face painted, they can paint, they can draw and do these things at home — but they can also try something like woodburning [here],” Marta Oraniewicz, Event Coordinator.

Kids were able to create paintings and sculptures, they watched in awe of performances, and danced like nobody was watching.

Gustavo the Impossibilist performed for the children on Saturday and says bringing smiles and laughs to the next generation is the best job someone can have.

“COVID’s been really hard on everybody so it’s really nice to get out, be outside, doing shows for kids again it makes me feel like I’m doing my job out here making kids smile, it’s just nice to be back at it,” says Gustavo the Impossibilist.

Event-goers were happy to enjoy the fun while encouraging creativity in children.

“I think being able to be creative and being able to have an outlet like that in something positive is something that will be a lifelong type of thing. These are lifelong skills and art is something that you can apply to just about anything you do in life,” a participant says.
