Tourism Kamloops to hold mayoral forum, hopes tourism will be a priority with new council
KAMLOOPS — Tourism Kamloops hopes to make the tourism industry a priority ahead of the 2022 municipal election.
In a news release issued Tuesday (Sept. 13), Tourism Kamloops announced it will hold a mayoral forum to be broadcast on its social media channels on Sept. 26. The group that focuses on promoting Kamloops as a tourism destination says the forum will focus on insights about the Kamloops visitor economy, exploring partnerships, and an ongoing commitment with the City of Kamloops.
“Since Tourism Kamloops’ inception in 2005 the City of Kamloops and Tourism Kamloops have worked in partnership to ensure that tourism is a priority for the community,” Tourism Kamloops CEO Monica Dickinson says. “It is important that a strong partnership continues. We are inviting all candidates to answer one key question: ‘What are your top three tourism priorities that Tourism Kamloops and the City of Kamloops should work together on during your term as an elected official?’ We hope this question kicks off many positive and productive conversations. We will be sharing the answers with our stakeholders.”
According to a public opinion survey from Tourism Kamloops during summer 2022, more than 96 per cent of 500 plus respondents say they believe the tourism industry has a positive impact on Kamloops’ economy. Additionally, Tourism Kamloops says 87 per cent of respondents believe money spent to attract more tourism to Kamloops is a good investment.
