KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack’s latest recruit may be their youngest yet.

The school has announced it has signed up Jude Mitton, a Grade 5 student at Lloyd George Elementary who has become a local awareness champion for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Duchenne’s is a rare condition that leads to a progressive loss of muscle. Jude led the Superhero Walk for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at his school in May.

Jude was introduced at the WolfPack student-athlete orientation, garnering a standing ovation.

The partnership will see the WolfPack commit “to raising funds and awareness to combat Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy,” according to a news release.

Jude will walk out with the men’s soccer team before their game this Friday (Sept. 9) at Hillside Stadium. His sister Kaia and cousin Claire will sing the national anthem prior to the game.

On this World Duchenne Awareness Day (Sept. 7), TRU encourages Kamloops residents to show their support:

  1. Wear red
  2. Move your body for those who can’t. Whether it’s a walk, run, bike or flowing with us by accessing our free, pre-recorded 35 mins all-levels yoga class.
  3. If you can, donate to Jude’s page by visiting themashmovement.com
  4. Spread awareness and tag @themashmovement
