Motorcyclist dies after colliding with van on Highway 1 west of Kamloops

UPDATE (9 a.m.): BC Highway Patrol confirms a motorcyclist — a man in his 80s from the Kamloops area — died after colliding with a van.

According to Highway Patrol, a van towing a trailer entered Highway 1 from Rodeo Drive and into the path of the eastbound motorcyclist. Police say the driver of the van, a man in his 70s from the East Kootenays, was uninjured in the crash and remain on scene and cooperated with investigators.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation and Highway Patrol says nothing has been ruled out.

Any witness with information or dashcam video of the crash is asked to contact Highway Patrol Kamloops at 250-828-3111.

UPDATE (8:20 a.m.): BC Emergency Health Services (EHS) confirms that a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle transpired on the stretch of Highway 1 between Kamloops and Tobiano Tuesday evening.

EHS says while two ground ambulances attended, no patients were transported to hospital.

BC Highway Patrol is expected to provide further details.

EARLIER: KAMLOOPS — The Trans Canada Highway west of Kamloops re-opened earlier Wednesday (Aug. 31) morning.

DriveBC first reported of a vehicle incident at Highway 1 and Rodeo Drive between Kamloops and Tobiano at around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 30).

DriveBC didn’t report the highway as fully clear until shortly past midnight, nearly seven hours later.
