Monday night mudslides impact Interior highways
LILLOOET, B.C. — A pair of mudslides impacted Interior highways overnight.
After 12:30 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 23), DriveBC reported a mudslide closed Highway 12 between Lillooet and Lytton. There’s no estimated time of re-opening, but a detour is available via Highway 1. DriveBC says a geotechnical assessment will take place during the daylight hours.
Further east, earlier Monday (Aug. 22) evening, DriveBC reported at around 7:30 p.m. that a mudslide closed Highway 1 east of Revelstoke – between Hemlock Grove Boardwalk and Illecillewaet Campground – for nearly three hours.
As of Tuesday morning, travel on Highway 1 east of Revelstoke is reduced to 50 km/h as DriveBC reports debris and water pooling on the road. Drivers are asked to watch for traffic control and expect delays. Another update is due at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
