Presumed lightning strike sparks house fire in Savona

KAMLOOPS — It’s believed that a lightning strike on Thursday (Aug. 11) evening led to extensive damage to home in Savona.

The home on Watson Drive is missing a large portion of it’s roof following the strike and ensuing fire.

The homeowner, who did not wish to appear on camera, stated that he and some family members were on the front patio around 5:00 p.m. last night when they believe a lightning strike hit the home. The strike was so loud, he believed it was a gun shot at the time.

It wasn’t until approximately 10 minutes later that he realized his house was on fire when he smelled smoke.

The Savona volunteer fire department responded to the scene and were able to keep the blaze from spreading to the neighbouring homes.
