Nostalgia abounds at Hot Nite in the City

KAMLOOPS — The streets of downtown Kamloops were packed this weekend as car lovers took in Hot Nite in the City, the annual car show.

Jerry Czeczei has been a car guy since the 1980s.

“[I] work in the automotive industry. Me and my best friend have been doing this… I’ve been doing this since 1987; I trained him in 1989. I’ve been working on cars my whole life, pretty much,” said Czeczei.

Though he’s attended Hot Nite for years, this year was the first time he entered his car in the show.

“As you get older, you start having kids, gotta start selling stuff off, and I’ve always wanted to get another one — so this is what I chose. I got a pretty good deal on it from the original owner, so I’m only the second owner of this car,” said Czeczei.

“I’ve been coming to these events for a long, long time, never had a car [in one] before, so I finally got a chance to be in it with my car.”

Sonny Jones loves Hot Nite because he grew up in the industry.

“I grew up in a dealership. My dad was a car dealer, so cars were my life since I was 13 years old.

“We raced them back in the day, we just grew up with it, so it’s like home.”

His son and daughter both have cars in the show — the tradition carries on.

“That’s the cherry on top, for me,” said Jones.
