Highway 1 in Tappen re-opens after overnight closure due to vehicle incident

UPDATE (11:30 p.m.): One man is dead following the crash on Highway 1 in Tappen Sunday night.

Salmon Arm RCMP say a Toyota driven by a local man was travelling west in the 5000-block of the Trans Canada Highway in Tappen where he was seen crossing the centre line into the path of an east bound semi truck and collided head on.

RCMP S/Sgt. Scott West says the man driving the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the semi was uninjured.

UPDATE (8:50 p.m.): BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) told CFJC Today they received the call at around 10:55 p.m. Sunday, but no patients were transported to hospital.

EARLIER: SALMON ARM, B.C. — Traffic on Highway 1 in the Shuswap is open in both directions after a late vehicle incident Sunday (Aug. 7) night.

DriveBC first reported of the incident that blocked Highway 1 in Tappen at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

According to DriveBC, traffic on Highway 1 between Bolton Road and Tappen Beach Road partially opened to single-lane alternating traffic at around 2:30 a.m. Monday (Aug. 8). The stretch of highway was cleared at around 6:15 a.m.

DriveBC tells motorists to expect delays due to congestion in the area.
