KAMLOOPS — A man was swept away by the current and didn’t resurface after he entered the Thompson River Saturday (July 31), according to Kamloops RCMP.
At around 5:30 p.m., a man was seen entering the water near McArthur Island Park. After he disappeared under the water, other people on shore tried to help him but couldn’t reach him. Several boats in the area also attempted to rescue him but couldn’t locate him.
RCMP and Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) conducted an extensive search. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team will be continuing to search for the missing man.
Kamloops RCMP is reminding residents that currents in the river are unpredictable and that the riverbed can drop off sharply.
