Weekend reports for Kamloops RCMP include bear-spray assault, and commercial break and enter

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 437 calls for service from midnight Friday July 22, to 9 a.m. on Monday July 25, 2022. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Multiple vehicle collision

Police say one person was apprehended under the Mental Health Act after an incident which damaged three vehicles on Friday afternoon (July 22).

RCMP say around 1:05 p.m on Friday, frontline officers responded to a report of a possible hit and run in the 400-block of Victoria Street near the Overlanders Bridge. Mounties found two victims vehicles, and a suspect vehicle had been damaged.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was identified as experiencing a mental health crisis, and they were apprehended by police and taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Break and enter

Kamloops RCMP say they are investigating after an early morning break and enter at a business along Dalhousie Drive over the weekend.

In a release, Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says on Saturday around 3:10 a.m. (July 23), officers responded to a commercial alarm at a business in the 1300-block of Dalhousie Drive. They confirmed a break-in and theft had taken place, though a suspect was not located.

Bear spray assault

Police are investigating a report of a bear spray assault on the city’s north shore on Monday (July 25).

Just before 1 a.m today, Kamloops RCMP say a frontline officer was patrolling near Richmond Avenue, when he was waved down for a report of an assault with a weapon.

A man reported to the officer that he had been approached by another man near 8th Street and Tranquille Road, who said nothing, and bear-sprayed him.

The suspect is described as only wearing a long-sleeved shirt.
