Supposedly dead person declared alive, highlighting busy weekend for Kamloops RCMP

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP had a busy weekend, responding to 377 calls between 12:00 a.m. Saturday (July 9) and 9:00 a.m. Monday. These are the more significant calls reported by the detachment:

A disturbance call turned into a fire call Saturday afternoon.

At about 1:30 p.m., officers were called to the area of First Avenue and Lorne Street near the Riverside Park bandshell for a disturbance. En route, officers were told the suspect in the disturbance was being assaulted by another man.

When officers arrived, they found the suspect in the disturbance had locked himself inside one of Riverside Park’s public washrooms. Soon, black smoke and the smell of burning plastic began emanating from the vents.

As the man left the restroom, he was arrested for mischief. A smouldering garbage can was found in the bathroom.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment before being released with a court date pending.

Three bear spray victims did not help RCMP catch their assailant Sunday.

At about 2:40 p.m., officers arrived in the 400-block of Tranquille Road, finding the three victims soon thereafter.

They were uncooperative. If you can be of more assistance, call Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and cite file number 2022-23640.

A supposed deceased person in Brocklehurst quickly had their condition upgraded to ‘alive’ Sunday.

At about 10:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of an orange garbage bag with feet sticking out, lying just off a walking path near Desmond Street and Ridgeview Terrace.

Responding officers arrived to find a motionless person.

Shortly after their arrival, the person sat up and confirmed they were simply in a deep slumber.
