KAMLOOPS — Like the first quarter of 2022, Kamloops Airport’s (YKA) second quarter of the fiscal year showed another stretch of traveller numbers being up by more than 600 per cent.

In a news release issued Monday (July 11) morning, YKA Managing Director Ed Ratuski shows the airport had 60,314 travellers in April, May and June this year, a 660 per cent increase from the 7,932 travellers during the same period in 2021.

The largest monthly increase was May, when its 21,342 travellers in 2022 was 940 per cent up from the 2,053 travellers in 2021. However, June had a few more hundred passengers with 21,624 in 2022, but it was only 541 per cent from the 3,373 in the same month last year. April has 17,348 travellers in 2022, a 592 per cent increase from 2,506 in 2021.

Ratuski says the numbers for the second quarter of 2022 show the continued recovery from the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and passengers boarding new and more frequent flights from Air Canada and WestJet.
