IIO investigating after Williams Lake man dies of apparent self-inflicted wound
WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — B.C.’s police watch dog is investigating whether police actions assisted in a man’s death in Williams Lake.
In a news release Sunday (July 10) evening, Williams Lake RCMP say they received a complaint at around 3:40 a.m. that a man with a weapon was contemplating self-harm. Officers attended the man’s home and established a perimeter while a police negotiator attempted to contact him.
At around 12:30 p.m., RCMP entered the home and found a dead man with a weapon with what appeared to be a self-inflicted injury. RCMP say they will work with the BC Coroner’s Service to identify the exact cause of death.
As the case is now under investigation by the Independent Investigations Office of B.C., no further information will be released.
