KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 373 calls for service from midnight Friday July 1, to 9:00 a.m. on Monday July 4, 2022. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Break and enter arrest

One man was arrested Saturday night (July 2) after his break-and-enter attempt was interrupted by a homeowner.

RCMP say around 11:25 p.m that evening, police were called to the 300-block of Collingwood Drive after residents were alerted to an intruder by their security camera.

The homeowner wound up confronting the man and followed him, but lost track of the suspect near Halston Ave.

While conducted patrols, police found a man who matched the suspect’s description shortly after.

He was arrested and held in custody until sober, then released with a court date and conditions as part of the charge recommendation and assessment process.

Prohibited driver

Kamloops RCMP say a local man was arrested after a traffic stop turned into a foot chase on Saturday evening (July 2).

Around 9:35 p.m on July 2, an officer was patrolling near Schubert Drive and Richmond Avenue on the city’s North Shore, when he noticed a truck driving without its headlights on.

The officer tried to stop the vehicle, and the driver got out of the truck and fled on foot.

Mounties found the man nearby, and arrested him for driving while prohibited and obstruction. He was released with a court date.

Impaired driver

Police say a Kamloops man who failed a roadside breath test over the weekend lost his license for 90 days.

On July 3 around 2:40 a.m., a traffic officer was patrolling in the downtown area on the 400-block of Victoria Street, when he saw a vehicle pull out of a parking spot and stall.

The officer came up to the vehicle, which had three people inside. As part of his investigation, he had the driver undergo roadside breath tests. Both tests came up with failed readings, which indicated a blood alcohol content exceeding .08.

As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act.
