MERRITT, B.C. — A local man is facing charges after prohibited guns and other weapons were found in a Merritt apartment.

In a news release, Sgt. Josh Roda says Merritt RCMP were called last Thursday (June 30) by a citizen concerned about guns and ammunition found in a residential unit.

After getting a search warrant, Mounties searched the apartment, finding “an assortment of firearms, prohibited firearms, ammunition, a knife and brass knuckles” inside.

The weapons were seized, and Roda says a man arrested on scene was released with a Sept. 6 court appearance scheduled.

Sgt. Roda says the boy had been the subject of a series of police investigations recently.

When officers swarmed the downtown area Tuesday morning at about 8:30 a.m., the teen took off on a bicycle.

After a chase, he was eventually arrested near Nicola Avenue and Voght Street.

The boy is facing 30 charges, including:

  • Break and enter
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Mischief
  • Obstructing a police officer
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Breach of bail conditions

Roda says the teen was scheduled to appear in court later in the day Tuesday.
