KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers have announced Norm Daley as its new team president, bringing extensive experience to the organization that hosts the Memorial Cup next year.

Daley replaces the late Don Moores, who passed away suddenly from a heart attack last June.

Daley, who recently retired as an accountant, led the successful 2023 Memorial Cup bid and has experience running events like the 2016 Women’s World Hockey Championships and 2014 Brier. Despite closing his Daley & Company accounting firm, he had the itch to be part of the Blazers organization in such an important time.

“I think Don did a fantastic job making the Blazers important in the community and I want to continue that,” he told reporters on Monday. “I want to make sure people are aware of us throughout the season, making sure we’re filling this building, getting good sponsorship, being good community supporters for our community here in Kamloops. The fact I’ve got experience with events, making sure the Memorial Cup is a memorable event for our community as well.”

Blazers’ majority owner Tom Gaglardi has been in talks with Daley since the fall, and the two came to an agreement on a multi-year deal in the spring.

“When it comes to hosting an event of that capacity like the Memorial Cup, Norm has the most experience of anyone. He was an easy decision,” noted Gaglardi. “He retired, so we had our eye on it, waited for him to get through that, and so now the time’s right. I can’t think of a better guy in the community to take this on and to lead the organization through this momumental year.”
