River levels rising in Kamloops region

KAMLOOPS — Emergency officials are keeping a close eye on the weather forecast as water levels continue to rise in the North Thompson River and South Thompson River.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre upgraded the North Thompson system to a Flood Watch Saturday (Jun. 11). That means river levels are rising and will approach or may exceed flood levels.

A High Streamflow Advisory was put in place for the South Thompson River Sunday. On its website, the forecast centre says continued snowmelt, combined with up to 25 mm of rain, will result in increases in river levels through the middle of the week. Computer modelling suggests flows could increase to the 2-year to 5-year range by early next week.
