Kamloops council passes scaled down Noble Creek Irrigation System project
KAMLOOPS — After years of studies and proposed upgrades, it appears there is finally a solution to the decaying Noble Creek Irrigation System (NCIS).
The system serves about 50 farmyards on the north end of Westsyde.
In 2020, the City of Kamloops proposed a $14 million upgrade. However, with 80 per cent of the project paid for by the farmers themselves, many said the cost was prohibitive and would render their operations not viable.
City staff returned earlier this month with a new proposal with a $3 million price tag. The downscaled project would expand response times to any potential problems to up to four days.
