PM set to attend the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Le Estcwicwe´y memorial in Kamloops Monday

KAMLOOPS – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is scheduled to meet with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Kúkpi7 Rosanne Casimir and Council members Monday (May 23) in Kamloops.

According to the Prime Minister’s official itinerary, Trudeau will attend the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Le Estcwicwe´y (The Missing) memorial. He is scheduled to arrive at 6 p.m. and is expected to speak at 7 p.m.

Governor General Mary Simon is also scheduled to attend the memorial. She’ll be speaking earlier in the day at 9:30 a.m.

The memorial, which is open to the public, will begin with a sunrise ceremony at 5 a.m. It will continue through the day with various activities including drumming, prayers and a minute of silence for the Le Estcwicwéy.

The day marks one year since the announcement of the confirmation of Le Estcwicwe´y (The Missing), the discovery of 215 suspected unmarked graves near the Kamloops Residential School.

Monday’s memorial is being held at the Pow-wow Arbour. Those who are unable to attend in-person, may watch the event online.
