KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) and Acres Enterprises are coming together for a new scholarship program.

Those wanting to pursue a career in trades and technology are the focus of the new scholarships.

The release says BC is currently facing a shortage of skilled tradespeople and Acres recognizes the significant barriers students find in supporting themselves in pursuing full-time education.

Acres Enterprises Owner and President Jason Paige, says construction is one of the many focal points.

“We are big believers in TRU and our construction community, we hope that these scholarships will open the door for those looking to enter this exciting industry. These awards are designed to support students so that they can find success as they work toward a rewarding career in the trades.”

Acres will also be sponsoring the Acres Enterprises Industry Innovation Competition.

“Students will have the opportunity to utilize their creativity in a “Dragons Den” style competition, and sharpen the skills they have learned to move beyond the classroom,” the Acres release states.

Three scholarships are being unveiled at TRU, as well as two technology competition awards:

  • Acres Enterprises Women in Trades Award
  • Acres Enterprises Indigenous Trades Award
  • Acres Enterprises Trades Award
  • Acres Enterprises Technology Excellence Award
  • Acres Enterprises Technology Excellence Entrance Award

Acres hopes to make a difference for the next generation in the trades sector.
