Blazers win Game 1 of west finals over Seattle 5-2

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers now lead the best-of-seven series against the Seattle Thunderbirds 1-0 after winning 5-2 Friday (May 20).

After punching their ticket to the Western Conference Finals in the 2022 Western Hockey League (WHL) playoffs, the Blazers handed Seattle their first loss of the series.

Blazers’ top goal-getter Logan Stankoven starred in his role once again scoring a hat-trick in the win.

Stankoven now has 24 points in 11 playoff games during the 2022 playoffs.

Even though the Thunderbirds led the game in shots outshooting Kamloops 38-27, Blazers’ Goalie Dylan Garand stood his ground only allowing two goals.

Another contributor to the win was Luke Toporowski, he added three assists to his postseason tally. Toporowski has 20 points in 10 playoff games during the 2022 postseason.

Game 2 of the series goes Saturday (May 21) at the Sandman Centre.

Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m.
