KAMLOOPS — A man and woman from Calgary are in custody after a crime spree in the Pineview Valley area Thursday morning (May 19).

At about 7:30 a.m. Thursday, RCMP were alerted to a vehicle theft in progress in Pineview. Officers tracked the vehicle to the end of Hugh Allan Drive, where they saw a man get into a grey truck being driven by a woman.

RCMP say the grey truck had been reported stolen out of Midway on Tuesday and was connected to an attempted vehicle theft in Kelowna Wednesday.

Mounties got the truck stopped, but not before it damaged two RCMP cruisers in the process.

No one was injured and the man and woman were taken into custody. Police say the woman was wanted out of Alberta and was bound by conditions not to be in a vehicle without the registered owner present.

“This happened in a residential area, during a time of day when the roadways are especially busy with kids making their way to school and adults travelling to work,” said detachment spokesperson Cst. Crystal Evelyn in a news release. “By stopping the truck, police were able to prevent it from fleeing the area, which would have increased the risk to public safety and allowed it to continue to be used for criminal activity.”

Anyone who has further information on the incident, including dashcam or surveillance footage, is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2022-16535.
