New 20-hectare fire northwest of Merritt suspected to be person caused

UPDATE (11:40 a.m.): BC Wildfire Service told CFJC Today the Rocky Pines wildfire is now under control.

EARLIER: MERRITT, B.C. — A new wildfire was reported northwest of Merritt Tuesday (May 3).

According to the BC Wildfire Service’s dashboard, the blaze at Rocky Pines is estimated at 20 hectares in size.

The Rocky Pines wildfire is suspected to be human caused.

As of Wednesday (May 4) morning, there are nine active wildfires within the Kamloops Fire Centre, seven of them are under control.
