TRU microbiologist wins prestigious 3M National Teaching Fellowship

KAMLOOPS — A microbiologist who teaches and does research at Thompson Rivers University has won a prestigious national teaching award.

Naowarat (Ann) Cheeptham is one of 10 recipients of the 3M National Teaching Fellowship.

Cheeptham teaches in TRU’s Faculty of Science. Her area of study is cave bacteria, aiming to find a solution to a fungus that is fatal in bat populations.

As a recipient of the fellowship, she will be invited to a retreat in the fall to “share knowledge and create connections that will continue to promote leadership and excellence in teaching and learning,” according to a news release. She will also receive $25,000 in project support as well as various other professional opportunities.
