RCMP in Merritt are issuing a warning after a local resident was scammed out of $1,600 trying to buy a puppy.
In a news release, Sgt. Josh Roda says RCMP were alerted to the scam Thursday (Apr. 28). A user on Facebook Marketplace posted photos of French bulldog puppies for sale. Roda says the resident sent the seller $1,600 via e-transfer — then failed to receive the puppy and never heard from the scammer again.
“These puppies may look cute, but you won’t actually get them if you send your money to a scammer,” said Roda. “Please double and triple check the validity of the sellers before sending them money.”
